Second semester – Let’s talk about you!

Hello everyone!

It’s been awhile since my first post where I spoke to you guys about my first semester adventure at Humber.

Last time I typed a post here, we had just started with our second semester classes and I was just getting to know the subjects I would be dealing with. Fast forward now and I’m actually done with half my semester. How does time fly like this?

So far this semester, my favourite subject has to be PHP. The other subjects we have are Quality Assurance & Testing, XML, Mobile Development with .net MVC and Web Information Architecture.

PHP (originally known as Personal Home Page and now has the recursive acronym Hypertext Preprocessor) is nothing but a server-side scripting language designed for web development but also used as a general-purpose programming language. PHP code can be embedded into HTML code, or it can actually be used in combination with various web template systems, web content management systems, and web frameworks. We’ll be learning Laravel PHP framework next semester so I am really looking forward to that.

In other news, I am building a very interesting project this semester in PHP which I am very excited about. I can’t really share more information about it right now as it’s under wraps until we finish it but once I am done, I’ll share a link to our project here. 🙂

Apart from this, I am also learning a lot about the different kinds of quality testing that can be done in Quality Assurance and Testing. How important is this? VERY! Imagine how much cost you can save if you find the bugs at an early stage of a project you have been working on.

With XML, we have been learning how to create an XML, styling them using XSLT and manipulating XML DOM using .net and PHP.

Mobile Development with .net MVC framework has already taught me so much about how to organize your code into models, views and controllers.

Phew! All of this and so much more. I’ll be back every week sharing stories from what I learn in school and what the future has in store for me. 🙂

Until next time,

The code ninja says bye!
